Yellow Home
The way Interior Designer Janie Hirsch often use one color scheme throughout a whole house, really fascinate me! If you don’t remember the gorgeous blue home we looked at before, you can see it here. This time she has used a soft shade of yellow which she has combined with both white and dark stained wood:
*

Classic dining room with chandelier and a bouquet of white tulips.
*

The kitchen is very modern with stainless steel appliances.
*

But further into the room is the classic styles kitchen dining area. Cute blinds.
*

The living room is in an open plan solution with the kitchen as far as I can tell. Take a look at that mirror!
*

Even the bedroom is yellow. Bedroom idea: hang a curtain behind the bed to create a draped fond wall. And instead of a bench at the end of your bed, why not place you desk?

Color Combinations with Yellow
Yellow is a pretty intense color, so the safest way to use it is as an accent color to a neutral background. If you choose a more neutral tone of yellow, like mustard, you can use it as a background color. Lets take a look at some great ways to use yellow:
*
This shade of yellow has a golden mustard tone as it contains a bit of black, making it more neutral and suitable as a background color. Here with black and light blue, black being the accent color.
*
Gorgeous tan walls and a bold black carpet makes a dramatic backdrop for a classic piece of yellow furniture.
*
Beige daybed on black carpet. Painting the wall halfway up in yellow creates a low, cozy space around this little nook.
*
This neutral room of grey and white is made interesting and modern with a pop of yellow.
*
A good rule is that the stronger the color, the less you need of it. But remember there are always exceptions to these rules, and playing with different shades and tones of color can give fantastic results!

Sunny Yellow and White

White living room with yellow-green and beige accessories. Looks simple, modern and very livable.

White and yellow country style bathroom. I don’t particularly like this tone of yellow, it’s a bit too skin-toned. The ceiling is also painted yellow, with a bathroom chandelier.

HGTV Green Home 2008
Lets go back in time and take a look at last years HGTV Green Homes (2008) sweepstakes. We have already seen this years (2009) prize home here on theLennoxx. Al though I was absolutely blown away by this years entry, the 2008 house was super cute too:
*

Red, white and beige living room. Okay, this looks real good. The sofa is lovely, as is the cushions, carpet and well.. everything else.
*

The living room, dining room and kitchen are all part of an open plan solution.
*

A beach theme dining room. The details are cute, including that ceiling lamp.
*

The green and white (chaotic?) kitchen.

Bringing the beach-theme into the choral- red and white hall.

Aqua and Yellow
This is a fresh and fun color combination:
Living room:
A soft yellow and turquoise really freshens up this otherwise bland living room.
Hall/ Entry:

Check out the funky paint job on that bench!
Master Bedroom:

A light and fun master bedroom. I would prefer a larger rug under the bed instead of two on the side. And what is up with placing the bed in a corner like that?
Bedsheets:

I love these. Great pattern, the circles are very feminine.
Living room:
This room and the next are designed by none other than Julianne Moore herself. Who knew? (The pics are not from her home).
Bedroom:
Super cute bedroom!
Classic Neutral Living Rooms
Visual inspiration:

Mustard, white and soft olive green. Curtain is traded in for a matching blind. Only thing missing are the light fixtures.

A more modern take. White, black with some splashes of green. The lucite tables gives the room a lot more space than would a solid colored one. Pillow pattern repeated in curtain. Simple lines. We can not see most of the corner table light, so lets find some that would fit the room!

ooh, here are lots of lovely details. Soft apricot, white and gold. Wouldn’t risk a glass of red whine in that living room! Anyways, that sofa sure looks comfy to lounge in.

Greige, eggshell white and soft pink. The ceiling being painted in the same colour as the walls makes for a cozy feel. I would hang the beautiful mirror properly on the wall though.
Need Ideas for your Hallway?
Having a clean and clutter free entry is a good idea, since it is usually the second impression a person gets of your home (the first is usually your garden etc). If you are looking for inspiration for an entry/hallway upgrade, look no further:

Black, White and Grey with a splash of Yellow. Those round mirrors gives me a serious flashback to this Jan van Eyck pic.
The Sophisticated:
