Looking Back at 2009
I’ve been enjoying a lot of blog post lately with predictions of the trends to look out for in 2010. At the same time I will admit to not being very concerned about trends when it comes to interiors. Trendy decoration will fast become tiring, and it is only a matter of time before you get bored and want to jump on the next trend. Personal style is timeless, and you can layer it for years. Trendy or not, lets take a trip down memory lane and have a look at some of the fun trends of 2009. You can click each image to go to the original post:

We have seen a lot of Painted Ceilings:
Architectural Digest run this post on a beautiful Greenwich Village Apartment with turquoise walls and silver ceilings.
*
Sara Story designed this kitchen with a purple ceiling and gorgeous painted hardwood floors.
*

This dreamy pink bedroom with a painted ceiling is designed by Phoebe Howard.
*
Juicy red and white are the colors of choice in this dining room with a painted ceiling, designed by Stephen Shubel.
*
Jeffers Design Group designed this magical bedroom with a sky blue ceiling.
*
This Old Hollywood Glam dining room is also designed by Jeffers Design Group and has a ceiling painted coral pink.
*
Olga Adler is the designer behind this spectacular foyer with a golden ceiling.
*
Sherril Canet also chose a gold ceiling for this emerald green living room.
*
We have seen some fantastic Padded walls:
A crafty homeowner posted this image of her beautifully padded wall bedroom on HGTV’s Rate my Space.
*
Vicente Wolf padded the walls of this gorgeous gray bedroom too.
*
Douglas Doulezal used cobalt blue padding on the walls for this glorious bedroom.
*
And even Upholstered Beds:
Jamie Drake upholstered a bed with his Shumacher Fabric Line for Kip’s Bay in 2007.
*
House to Home shared this gem of an upholstered bed with us.
*
This padded bed also belongs to a HGTV Rate My Space-er.
*
We saw a lot of Mirrored Furniture:
This is Interior designer Nancy Corzine’s own bedroom with a mirrored four poster bed, featured in New York Social Diary earlier this year.
*
The explosively popular Sunburst Mirror:
Pottery Barn showcased this wonderful bedroom with a huge sunburst mirror.
*
The Zebra Print:
Zebra was definitely the exotic animal pattern of choice in 2009, shown here on a crazy beautiful vignette designed by Mary McDonald.
*
The Four Poster Bed:
This super hot bedroom is designed by Kim Coleman and features two of the big hits this year, the four poster bed and the zebra print stools.
*
And what about the chandelier?
In 2009 we literally saw that the chandelier is not confined to the living room and dining room anymore, it can now be found in any and every room from bedroom to bathrooms and nurseries:
This bedroom featured in New York Social Diary belongs to Painter Rosalyn Engelman and features a classic chandelier.

This nursery with the gorgeous crystal ball chandelier is designed by Little Crown Interior.

Now I’m dying to hear what caught your eye throughout 2009?!
White and Green
*

I fell in love with this bedroom, but sadly I could not find more pictures of it. The walls looks to be a fresh apple green with cream white.. well, everything else. Beautiful!

Exotic Bedroom
Jeffers Design Group has one of those portfolios that are overwhelming with never ending beauty and inspiration. This exotic bedroom caught my attention immediately:
*

Beige walls, dark hardwood floors and a soft blue ceiling. It is definitely the soft wavy lines and shapes that lifts this room from gorgeous to spectacular.
*

Just take a look at that headboard! The soft lines are repeated everywhere from the beautiful wallpaper to the bed skirt and all fabrics in the room.
*

Here is a closer look at the wonderful wallpaper. The designer hit two birds with one stone (no pun intended) by placing a desk besides the bed, doubling as a bedside table. The table lamps flanking the bed looks fantastic! Love the cobalt blue mirror too.
*

Beautiful textiles, and the chair is so cute.
*
Seafoam Bedroom Elegance
Painter Rosalyn Engelman’s Fifth Avenue apartment was the subject in New York Social Diary’s house section a while ago, and I am absolutely enamored with her bedroom:
*

She has such a classic and elegant bedroom. This is the style you find in big mansions, and I absolutely love how it is downsized and simplified for a perfect apartment version.
*

The classic crystal chandelier is the focal point of the room. To maximize the height of the room, the beautiful seafoam green wall color goes all the way up to the ceiling, as well as the curtain valances.
*

A classic area rug frames the bed on beautiful dark hardwood floors. Oh, and the silver candle stick triplet over the bed is one of my favorite features.
*

Fantastic! Wish my bedroom looked like this!
*
Modern Grays
*

A lovely gray living room. The large clean surfaces are broken up with subtle patterns and textures on fabrics, adding depth and interest to the room. The focal point of this room is obviously the fantastic painting over the sofa:
*

I love these painting, but I can’t for the life of me remember who the artist is. Do you?
UPDATE: It hit me like a rock; painting is by James Nares!!
*

This is a second seating area. Those sofas are the hotness!
*

Gorgeous greige bedroom with a simple seating area for relaxing with a good book.

These beautiful designs are the creation of Kara Mann, you can see more of her work at her website here!
Xtina’s Bedroom Drama
So I had a giggle when this post by Dagny at Beautiful Living popped up in my Bloglovin today. She had posted a photo featuring Christina Aguilera’s bedroom, and she didn’t exactly like it:
*

Xtina’s bedroom. I must admit this is not to my personal taste either, and as I often do, I started fantasizing about what would make this more to my liking. This is where my mediocre photo editing skills come into play. The first thing I would do is clean up the color palette. I do like the plum colored walls, but not paired with the yellow-beige. Altough the illuminated plateu “stairs” are fun and unexpected, it draws way too much attention from the bed. This is what I ended up with:
*

A cleaner and simpler version of the bedroom. The bed itself is goregous and really stands out now with white bedlinens framed by the black valances and drapes.
*
What about you? Is Christina’s bedroom just your style? If not, what would you change?

Bedroom Love
When I first saw this bedroom, I instantly fell in love with it:
*

*
It is the lure of the cobalt blue curtains. So fresh and unexpected! Love the baby blue bed too..
Design by Brown Davies Interior.
Coastal Classic
*

Light blue and cream coastal style living room. You can see the dining room in the background.
*

Glass dining table with a white shell chandelier. The mirrored folding screen is really pretty and very decorative.
*

Beautiful blue-green and cream bedroom. This one is a classic!

Gray and Gold
*

Love the color combo of gray and “gold” in this super modern bedroom.
*

The bedroom seating area is really nice.
*
Beige sofa with brown and gold throw pillows. Contrasting textures, demure colors and bold shapes are key elements in this gorgeous bedroom.
*

Between the bed and seating area is yet another seating option!
*

The white tulip table is a design classic. Here combined with simple wood chairs on metal frames.
*

The console table-mirror combo is a popular way of dressing a wall where nothing else is going on.. Nice zebra mirror, and the lamps are hot!

Colorfest by Kishani Perera!
I absolutely adore Kishani Perera’s use of color, I can’t think of anyone who uses color the same way as this girl. Take a look:
*

Coral red and antique-white two bed guest bedroom. The headboards are HOT! The bright color and bold fabric gives this room a 70’s vibe, but still it is so “now”!
*

This spectacular living room is painted a glossy gray all over. Even the huge bookshelf, which is placed directly behind the sofa, by the way. Hints of purple adds a regal touch, all topped of with a huge crystal chandelier.
*

Two shades of purple in this super modern bedroom. The crisp white details really pop!
*

Divine pink dining room. Nothing softens a room like light translucent curtains.. And what about the carpet? It’s pretty fabulous, right?
*

Orange hallway with crisp white furniture and accents. The lamp is designed by Jonathan Adler:

*
How about you? Are you bold enough to take on bright colors like these? Do you think you would grow bored of a bright color quicker than of a neutral color?
