Gwyneth Paltrow’s Home
I think it is really fascinating to look into the homes of the rich and famous, as they have all the means to create the perfect home. This time we will take a look into actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s Long Island home. So here we go:
*

*

This is our actress in her gorgeous living room. Gwyneth obviously like her home light and classic with pops of pastels. On a side note, I adore her dress!

Here is another view of the living room. The cool blue sofas are balanced with warm pops of fuchsia.

This staircase in very simple and modern, but the wallpaper adds a warmer more “liveable” atmosphere than if it was left white.

Gwyneth has pale floors all over her home.

This dining room is the epitome of simple romantic design. The Swarovski blossom chandelier is available here for those of you who can afford it. It is $27,350.00.

This is Gwyneth’s daughter Apple’s bedroom. In keeping with the rest of the house, this bedroom is light and airy, with splashes of fuchsia for a girly princess look.

Pin Up Chic
Ben Huckerby Design is behind these modern pin up chic interiors:
*

This living room gives me serous new years eve party vibes. It must be the black and white with the hints of metallic. Not to mention the champagne colored couch.
*

A closer look at the wall art. I wonder why it was not placed directly behind the sofa?
*

A very tall headboard padded with gray velour and purple teffeta throw pillows adds a bit of glam to this simple bedroom. Is it just me or is purple the ultimate color of glam?
*

Isn’t that Madonna in the print? You can order photography prints of your favorite stars here!
*

This hallway has a feature wall of black and silver wallpaper with framed Marilyn Monroe prints.
*

Black and silver (err.. steel) is also the color scheme in this ultra modern kitchen. What do you think of glossy kitchen cabinets?
*

Very bold wallpaper indeed!

Dream Home?
On February 19th the winner of HGTV’s Dreamhome 2010 will be chosen. This is the fourteenth Dream Home since it started in 1997. The house is located in Sandia Park, New Mexico, and has eighteen rooms (counting the 3 car garage). Let’s take a look at a few of them:
*

Calm green bedroom with light green walls with brown and cream accents. Also, all trim and window frames are painted a demure blue. If this was my bedroom, I would paint the ceiling, I have a personal war going on with bare wood surfaces.
*

The same bedroom viewed from the bed. To the left is a “sunrise room”, separated by a wall with an open fireplace and a flat screen TV. To the right is the master bathroom, with blue sliding doors to the tub. You don’t of cause need to climb through the tub to get to the bathroom, there is a normal entry on the side.
Wall color is Sherwin-Williams Svelte Sage.
*

The color scheme is the same in the master bathroom, but with less brown for a lighter cleaner look.
*

One thing I noticed in this house is the extensive use of tiles. In this kitchen for example, the whole wall behind the stove is covered in tiles. This kitchen is in open plan solution with the living area though, so I guess it is a nice way of defining the kitchen area. What do You think?
*

And with that I had to cover this beautiful “casita” (as they call it), a tiny bedroom with a built in bathroom (see below). I was really surprised they made a feature wall of tiles behind the bed…
*

But it makes more sense when you see the bathroom placement. I would love to have a guest suite like this to offer my visitors, but personally I prefer a bit more privacy in the bathroom, lol!
The wall color is Sherwin-Williams Foxy.
*

There is just something about the color scheme in this home office that really speaks to me. I’m usually not into these muddy olive greens, but the pops of blue and red really freshens it up. Do you like it?
Wall color is Sherwin-Williams Sycamore Tan.
*

This second bedroom is lilac with whites and creams. Two single four poster beds invites guests to a cozy sleepover.
Wall color is Sherwin-Williams Ash Violet.
*

I love this detail shot. The chair is to die for, and the framed wall sconces are a great touch.
*

Which kid wouldn’t love this colorful bedroom with a Toy Story and Cowboy theme?
*

Turquoise and orange is a fresh color combination, but these both have black in them, which tones the colors down a lot.
The wall color is Sherwin-Williams Reflecting Pool.
*

Behind this wall is a bathroom shared between this room and the lilac guest bedroom.
*
So what do you think, is this your dream home? Are you entering the sweepstakes?
Actress Molly Sims’ Home
I came across these pictures of actress Molly Sims’ beautiful home on Luxist, and as I saw the kitchen photo, I remembered reading about this home on Interior designer Kiahani Perera’s blog. Kishani, one of my favorite designers, is in fact a good friend of our actress, and is behind Molly’s Hollywood Hills home, so let’s take a look:
(you can click the pics to see full size on Luxist)
*
Molly has a white house with beautiful black details. I really like the larger-than-life potted trees, very simple and dramatic.
*
This is Molly’s dining room. Like the facade, the walls are white and the floors and trim is black. The blue velvet dining chairs looks super soft and comfy.
*
On the other side of the fireplace wall is a living area. Let us take a closer look:
*
Gray sofas with purple throw pillows and a glass chandelier to add a bit of glamour.
*
The kitchen is white with marble counter tops and brushed steel kitchen appliances.
*
I love how the glassware is arranged by color in the cabinet.
*
Isn’t this little girls room adorable?
*
This is definitely a room to grow up in.
*
This I presume is the master bedroom. It is seafoam green and white, with a huge bed with nailhead trim. Love the pops of color brought in by the purple lampshades. This room was later painted a deep grey, which, according to Kishani “complrtely transformed the vibe of the space from beachy to moody”.
See the result on Kishani’s blog here.
*
The bathroom is white too.
*
Here is the second living room, with a flatscreen TV.
*
Last but not least is Molly’s home office. I have posted some images of this room before on this website, and here are some more:
*

The wall seems a lot more purple in these photos.

Here is the same office, revamped for a photo shoot for Molly Sims’ jewelry line.

And here is the beautiful actress in her equally beautiful home!

Bewitching Colors
David Kaplan is the designer behind this beautiful home of blues and pinks:
*

This beautiful light blue living room is decorated very subtly paying close attention to pattern, texture and dimension.
*

I think this color palette is absolutely fantastic. The colors really play off of each other. Bright, but toned down.
*

Take a look at the different chairs on this room. Very sculptural.
*

David mixes a lot of metals and metal colors in this room. Just look at the coffee table with the gold picture frames. I really like how he painted the whole mantel the same color as the walls, and used a slightly deeper tone on the molding.
*

The dining area is the same wall color, it might possibly be an open plan solution with the living room. Even the window frames are blue. The black dining table is very visually heavy (and probably physically heavy too), but perfectly balanced out by very light feminine chairs and beautiful flowers and chandelier.
*

In open plan solutions I often notice wall paneling is used to define the living room, like in this one.
*

Beautiful dresser.
*

An accent wall in a stairway. Great idea to add some color and depth!

Dramatic Apartment Bedroom
This modern apartment bedroom is designed by Beth Whitlinger and is done in a black and white theme:
*

Rooms that have a black and white theme often has white walls. I love how Beth chose a subtle beige instead, making the white details really pop!
*

On the wall opposite of the bed, Beth placed a desk. Disguised as a framed print is a flat screen TV! I really like how she created a very simple vignette on the desk. The objects cutting off some of the TV frame gives the impression of art instead of TV.
*
A Twist of Lemon
Michael Partenio is the photographer behind these beautiful pictures (click images to see full size on Michael’s site):
*
Gray walls, white trim and area rugs against dark hardwood floors. Check out the mega vignette on the bookshelf, half the sea is fitted in there!
*
Everything in this room is so.. wow!
*
This ottoman coffee table is spectacular!
*
A Pop of Color
Beth Haley is the interior designer behind this home of a million awkward angles. The way Beth dresses these rooms, you barely notice though, because she uses a neutral beige background with lots of color pops.
*

Attention is drawn straight to the bed courtesy of the deep purple accent wall and the very structural headboard.
*

This colorful vignette is certainly an eye catcher.
*

I love how Beth chose a funky zebra pattern framed mirror in this demure bathroom. What a lovely contrast!
*

The pointed ceiling in this boys bedroom is taken advantage of and dressed in a camouflage fabric for a cozy tent look.
*
Small Room, Big Color
Elaine Griffin put together this beautiful living room. The walls are painted a rich chocolate brown and the room is decorated in white, creams and golden beige.
*

See how beautifully the saffron red throw pillows pick up the red undertones in the wooden tables flanking the white sofa?
*

The lovely tall windows are dressed with bamboo blinds. A pair of heavy curtains frames the windows and adds vertical interest (height) to the room. The thing I love the most about this living room is how cozy it looks, even with tons of natural light!
*

To the left is a beautiful wooden desk with a heavy mirror. A desk and a vanity table in one!
*
Contemporary Glam
Jeneration Interiors is behind this fabulous home of contemporary bliss. We have seen a lot of bright colors in contemporary design lately, so this more muted palette is a nice change around here.
*

So many lovely details, where do we start? Well, how about the gorgeous wall color? It looks like Benjamin Moore’s Kendall Charcoal. The furnishings and accents are really dramatic, with pops of “muddy” colors and glass ornaments for a touch of glam. Lets take a closer look at this living room:
*

Everything in this room is fabulous, from the glass orbit chandelier to the black and white geometric area rug to the black and brass bamboo beach style chair.
*

The black and gold credenza is the perfect base for a simple but dramatic vignette. It is all about proportion here, just look at the fantastic wing chair and the coffee table. The horn end table is available at Z Gallerie.
*

A black chandelier lights up this reflective chrome dining table. One row of deep red dining chairs is exchanged for a white-and-brass bench seat.
*

Here’s more of the cool vases like the ones on the coffee table.
*

Can’t omit this beautiful vignette. Is it just me or is this huge? Look at the winged chair and the brass chair in comparison.. They both look tiny! Another great example of dramatic proportion.
(Learn how to create a perfect vignette here!)
*

The black details are exchanged for brown to keep a softer look for this bedroom. Again, Jennifer of Jeneration Interiors plays with proportion.
*

This cozy nook for dining includes bench seating and white marble table top. The art deco chandelier is really making it’s way back in the world of contemporary design.
