Hexagonal Marble Tiles
Lately I have developed a minor obsession with glossy bathroom floors. More specifically; white hexagonal marble tiles paired with a good source of natural light (i.e. big windows). The result is a beautifully glistening floor, almost like fish scales. Here are some of my favourite pictures:
*

This gorgeous bathroom was featured in Architectural Digest. The tiles looks to be uniformly white with a gray spacer or grout.
*

This bathroom is designed by Lori Tippins, I remember reading somewhere that it is her own bathroom. See how the daylight makes the floor glisten.
(Photo cred to Holly of Things that Inspire)
*

This is also a Lori Tippins design, and it proves that even a tiny window can give the shine effect.
*

This bathroom is designed by Catalano Inc and has a gray (or blue?) super glossy floor. The tiles looks to be square, not hexagonal, but gorgeous nonetheless. That’s not a modest sized window either.
*

This beauty is designed by Alicia Friedman. She used a larger hex pattern, and I think it looks absolutely gorgeous. What do you think?
*
Fun fact: After looking through these picture again it hit me what really attracted me to these bathrooms. It is the gorgeous contrast between the glossy tiles and the matte painted walls. Have I subconciously grown tired of tiled bathroom walls?

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Home
I think it is really fascinating to look into the homes of the rich and famous, as they have all the means to create the perfect home. This time we will take a look into actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s Long Island home. So here we go:
*

*

This is our actress in her gorgeous living room. Gwyneth obviously like her home light and classic with pops of pastels. On a side note, I adore her dress!

Here is another view of the living room. The cool blue sofas are balanced with warm pops of fuchsia.

*

This staircase in very simple and modern, but the wallpaper adds a warmer more “liveable” atmosphere than if it was left white.

Gwyneth has pale floors all over her home.

This dining room is the epitome of simple romantic design. The Swarovski blossom chandelier is available here for those of you who can afford it. It is $27,350.00.

*

This is Gwyneth’s daughter Apple’s bedroom. In keeping with the rest of the house, this bedroom is light and airy, with splashes of fuchsia for a girly princess look.

The kitchen has matte black cabinets and beige tiling.

Two white chandeliers adds a bit of glamour over the kitchen island, and makes a great contrast to the black cabinets.

Actress Molly Sims’ Home
I came across these pictures of actress Molly Sims’ beautiful home on Luxist, and as I saw the kitchen photo, I remembered reading about this home on Interior designer Kiahani Perera’s blog. Kishani, one of my favorite designers, is in fact a good friend of our actress, and is behind Molly’s Hollywood Hills home, so let’s take a look:
(you can click the pics to see full size on Luxist)
*
Molly has a white house with beautiful black details. I really like the larger-than-life potted trees, very simple and dramatic.
*
This is Molly’s dining room. Like the facade, the walls are white and the floors and trim is black. The blue velvet dining chairs looks super soft and comfy.
*
On the other side of the fireplace wall is a living area. Let us take a closer look:
*
Gray sofas with purple throw pillows and a glass chandelier to add a bit of glamour.
*
The kitchen is white with marble counter tops and brushed steel kitchen appliances.
*
I love how the glassware is arranged by color in the cabinet.
*
Isn’t this little girls room adorable?
*
This is definitely a room to grow up in.
*
This I presume is the master bedroom. It is seafoam green and white, with a huge bed with nailhead trim. Love the pops of color brought in by the purple lampshades. This room was later painted a deep grey, which, according to Kishani “complrtely transformed the vibe of the space from beachy to moody”.
See the result on Kishani’s blog here.
*
The bathroom is white too.
*
Here is the second living room, with a flatscreen TV.
*
Last but not least is Molly’s home office. I have posted some images of this room before on this website, and here are some more:
*

The wall seems a lot more purple in these photos.

Here is the same office, revamped for a photo shoot for Molly Sims’ jewelry line.

And here is the beautiful actress in her equally beautiful home!

Classic, Pretty
Today we’ll look at some beautiful designs by Caroline Edwards:
*

This beautiful living room is decorated in cream and beige. Take a look at those chairs. Reminds me of this chair by Mrs Howard Personal Shopper.
*

A closer look at the fireplace and seating area. Perfect symmetry, and the fireplace frames the pretty chandelier beautifully.
*

Beautiful home office. And do I detect another TV-in-mantel solution like this one?
*

Beautiful caramel colored bedroom. This is real eye candy (yes, that is my attempt at a pun.. lame I know)
*

Simple clean lines, but not bare and boring. Masculine with a feminine touch?
*

There is nothing masculine about this lovey dining area. Notice how only the two end chairs have arm rests. Nice detail.
*
Gray by Mimi Williams
Today we’ll look at some of the work of Interior Designer Mimi Williams. I am not sure if this is a private home or not, because it looks amazingly large, with two living room seating areas and two dining areas. What I do know is that it looks absolutely fantastic!
*

The whole of the home is decorated in a subtle gray. Three tiny glass tables instead of one large. Fun idea!
*

The second seating area. Have you noticed the trend of using dark tables to light colored seating?
*

This dining room has two identical seating areas symmetrically arranged around a cozy fireplace. The second dining room is to the right in this image.
*

And here it is. Notice the fantastic eagle claws and glass ball table foots. I love how Mimi used only a few large accent pieces in this dining room. Very dramatic.
*

Beautiful lines on this staircase, underlined by the choice of black and white on the railing.
*

Take a look at that headboard. Very sculptural, like the back on the adjacent chair.
*
You can see more pictures from this beautiful home on Mimi’s website here!
White and Green
*

I fell in love with this bedroom, but sadly I could not find more pictures of it. The walls looks to be a fresh apple green with cream white.. well, everything else. Beautiful!

Beautiful Bedroom by Vicente Wolf
Vicente Wolf is one of my favorite designers, and if you take a look at these photos, or his portfolio for that sake, you know why.
*

This bedroom is painted a very cool and light shade of blue and has a feature wall of gray padded squares. The tall classic furniture is combined with sisal carpeting, adding a rougher texture and a beautiful contrast to the delicate gray fabrics used. Another very notisable contrast in this room is the Victorian headboard combined with the steel framed four poster bed.
*
This is the seating area in the foreground in the first picture. Simple and elegant. The frosted glass panels you see behind the sofa is actually a door into the bathroom.
*
Here are the glass doors viewed from the bathroom. I remember seeing a video from Mr. Wolf’s home, and he had removed one of the bathroom walls and replaced it with frosted glass to add natural light from the flanking room (I think it was the living room). I will post the video if I find it.
*
Did you ever see classic beauty and modern combined as effortlessly as this?
*
If you just can’t get enough of this, visit Vicente’s own blog, it is a fantastic read!
Breathtaking Bedroom Transformation!
I love this bedroom makeover. Editor of Decorating Magazine Lacey Howard transforms a plain white bedroom into a warm and welcoming delight of taupe, corals and pinks:
*
The Bed:

Before the makeover starts, this bedroom is pretty much a clean canvas of white. The white ribbon on the bedsheets..
*

… is exchanged for a coral one. New bedside table and white plates as wall decor. A small vignette is created on the bedside table with a framed pink painting and a bouquet of flowers. This transformation is awesome! Rich warm colors.
*
The Closet:

The folding doors of the closet are removed.
*

And replaced with curtains for a softer and more open feel. The curtain rod is wider than the actual closet to make the closet look bigger. Now there is not just a wall with a closet, the whole wall is the closet. Love the warmer shade in the closet.
*
The Dresser/Desk:

This is the dresser you saw in the closet, and it has been replaced by..
*

The former pink nightstand. A glass side table turns this nook into a tiny home office slash vanity. To really make this alcove feel like a space of its own, the walls are covered in beautiful beige butterfly wallpaper.
*
The Seating Area:

The seating area was clean, simple and pretty before..
*

.. but absolutely stunning after! The coral pink curtains placed wider than the actual window frame makes the window look a lot bigger, and frames the sofa perfectly. The floor lamp (which was moved to the bed) is replaced with a white shell chandelier, and white ottoman tables and recliner each received new slipcovers.
This is definitely how you do pink room without it looking like a little girls room.
*
Watch the video to see the whole transformation taking place!
*
Romantic Beige
*
Nice romantic living room. I love this very neutral shade of beige, it is a perfect warm background color when you want to add a few color pops. Love the fireplace in the fireplace solution too.
*
Beautiful beige daybed. Anyone know who designed it?
*
A bedroom with a lot of inspiring words to start the day on a good note.
*
Double sinks placed in front of a window, what a great use of space! You would probably need a vanity table for doing hair and makeup, with a great opertunety to check the result in natural daylight before you leave the house =)
*
Now this is a great looking home office!

Classic Cream
Today’s divine designs are created by California based brother- and design duo Ryan and Joshua Brown of Brown Design Inc:
*

The walls, carpet and curtains are all the same perfect shade of creamy beige, setting a perfect backdrop for the dark coffee table. I could move in here in the blink of an eye, and would not change a thing. Perfect!
*

Camel colored couch, decorated with throw pillows one shade lighter than the walls, one shade darker than the couch, and every shade and texture in between.
*

White bedroom with a beige wallpapered feature wall. That is my favorite hardwood floor stain (at the moment), so rich and warm.
*

Beautiful flowing lines in that blue and cream area rug.
*

Have you ever seen a bench seat like this before? Spectacular lines!
*

Now this is a bathroom! I adore the dark window frames against the soft beige walls, and the tiles are just fabulous. Perfect balance between classic and modern elements.
*
If you enjoyed these images, make sure to view them on the flash site of Brown Design Inc. as they look so much better in full scale!
