Dream Home?
On February 19th the winner of HGTV’s Dreamhome 2010 will be chosen. This is the fourteenth Dream Home since it started in 1997. The house is located in Sandia Park, New Mexico, and has eighteen rooms (counting the 3 car garage). Let’s take a look at a few of them:
*

Calm green bedroom with light green walls with brown and cream accents. Also, all trim and window frames are painted a demure blue. If this was my bedroom, I would paint the ceiling, I have a personal war going on with bare wood surfaces.
*

The same bedroom viewed from the bed. To the left is a “sunrise room”, separated by a wall with an open fireplace and a flat screen TV. To the right is the master bathroom, with blue sliding doors to the tub. You don’t of cause need to climb through the tub to get to the bathroom, there is a normal entry on the side.
Wall color is Sherwin-Williams Svelte Sage.
*

The color scheme is the same in the master bathroom, but with less brown for a lighter cleaner look.
*

One thing I noticed in this house is the extensive use of tiles. In this kitchen for example, the whole wall behind the stove is covered in tiles. This kitchen is in open plan solution with the living area though, so I guess it is a nice way of defining the kitchen area. What do You think?
*

And with that I had to cover this beautiful “casita” (as they call it), a tiny bedroom with a built in bathroom (see below). I was really surprised they made a feature wall of tiles behind the bed…
*

But it makes more sense when you see the bathroom placement. I would love to have a guest suite like this to offer my visitors, but personally I prefer a bit more privacy in the bathroom, lol!
The wall color is Sherwin-Williams Foxy.
*

There is just something about the color scheme in this home office that really speaks to me. I’m usually not into these muddy olive greens, but the pops of blue and red really freshens it up. Do you like it?
Wall color is Sherwin-Williams Sycamore Tan.
*

This second bedroom is lilac with whites and creams. Two single four poster beds invites guests to a cozy sleepover.
Wall color is Sherwin-Williams Ash Violet.
*

I love this detail shot. The chair is to die for, and the framed wall sconces are a great touch.
*

Which kid wouldn’t love this colorful bedroom with a Toy Story and Cowboy theme?
*

Turquoise and orange is a fresh color combination, but these both have black in them, which tones the colors down a lot.
The wall color is Sherwin-Williams Reflecting Pool.
*

Behind this wall is a bathroom shared between this room and the lilac guest bedroom.
*
So what do you think, is this your dream home? Are you entering the sweepstakes?
Orange Apartment
Here is another apartment, decorated in a completely different style from the one in the last post:
*

Beige living room decorated with orange and red. Low furniture with simple lines on a large dramatic area rug. I don’t know where the coffee cups go, because there is no table. On the other hand, there is plenty of space for dancing!
*

From another angle. There is plenty of seating options here too.
*

Here is even a cozy nook for taking in the great view. Check out the red vases all along the windowsill, alternating between cacti and tea candles.
*

Talk about utilizing all space; this tiny corner is made into a home bar!
*

This must be the easiest for of Christmas decoration, loading a couple of fish bowls with disco-style ornaments!

Light blue and cream coastal style living room. You can see the dining room in the background.
*

Glass dining table with a white shell chandelier. The mirrored folding screen is really pretty and very decorative.

Beautiful blue-green and cream bedroom. This one is a classic!

Minimal and Modern by Brad Ford
Lets take a look at some light, modern designs by Brad Ford:
*

This white dining room has dark hardwood floors and window frames. The light dining table with the black chairs make a great contrast. One thing I really notice in this dining room is the repeating small square shape of the windows and the chair backs..
*

A bit of color is injected into the living room area, with green sofas and pink throw pillows. The cream leather ottoman works as a coffee table as well as extra seating.
*

This white kitchen is clean, simple and modern with polished marble counter tops and stainless steel appliances.

Modern Living room by Tim De Clue

The style is fresh and modern with a beachy theme. The living room walls are painted brown, while the wall of the dining area is terracotta. The color scheme is pulled together through the sofa pillows. I love the raw wood console table behind the couch, it is very befitting of the theme. Like drift wood. The shiny barracuda (fish) sculpture is from Z gallerie, you can get it here. The wood sculpture in the dining area would be super nice with a spot-light directed at it, I’m sure it would create some kick-ass shadows on the wall!

Light and Layered Home Design
I am absolutely enamoured with this home designed by Janie Hirsch:
*

Light blue and white living room with sisal rug. Look at all the classic furniture pieces and beautiful artwork. Janie definitely use contrasts to add depth to a room.
*

Janie is a real talent when it comes to lighting, notice how all the artworks are illuminated in a way that they stand out as individual pieces, and at the same time binds the room together. This is very well illustrated in the top pic too.
*

It is so impressing to me when a home is designed in one simple color theme, like here with light blue and white, and yet all the rooms are so different. Behind the living room you can see the kitchen and dining area. See how the different curtains separates the room into two “zones”.
*

Just gorgeous! That ceiling lamp is so pretty with the beads on the cable.
*

Divine dining room with sheer brown curtains. Notice how Janie always hangs the curtains immediately under the ceiling, emphasizing the height of the room. Also, she often opt for two chandeliers over a dining table instead of one, that way you can decorate the wall behind with a large mirror or painting, and use one tall centerpiece on the dining table. The beams on the ceiling adds a third dimention to this room, read this great article about it on Things That Inspire!!
*

Going for black cabinets in the kitchen is such a bold and creative choise!
*

The focal point of this bedroom is definitely the super tall padded headboard.
*

Stunning bathroom with more than enough lighting. I love how she mounted the sconces on the mirror! Not everyone has artwork overt the tub either.

Coral Red and White Top Model Home
I was really impressed by what the Top Model Home contestants had accomplished on a $5,000 budget, remember we looked at Jill Shevlin’s design entry here. Lets check out some of the other entries, starting with this all-red open solution by interior designer Cindy Blunt:

Purple Magic by Jamie Drake
How can you not be inspired by these gorgeous pictures from the home of interior designer Jamie Drake?
*
I think this champagne and bright purple color combination is absolutely fantastic!
*
Bright purple velvet sofa and a classic chair with modern zebra pattern.
*
I think the fabric on these sofa chairs is simply fantastic.
*
The dining room continues the color scheme from the living room of champagne and purple, the latter being a cooler tone. To distinguish the dining area from the living room in this open plan solution, another color is worked into the dining area; a deep turquoise.
*
I can’t help but enjoy a perfect open plan solution. It can be a challenge to create two separate spaces, which is still part of the same room. Jamie Drake has used both color and furniture style actively here. The dining room furniture is very modern.
*
Camel color bedroom with turquoise accents. Very fresh!

The dining area on the other hand, is kept strictly minimal with a dark glass dining table and bright green dining chairs with modern ghost frames. Open Plan Solution
Lets take a tour!
*
Huge open plan solution with open entry, living room, dining room and kitchen. The fact that this whole level has the same color theme of light blue and a cold yellow (yellow with white).
*
The living room is decorated in yellow, green, cream and maroon.
*
This über long drawer unit doubles as shelf, storage and seating area. And look, a fireplace too!
*
Wow, fun choice of chairs, each in a different color to match the rest of the home.
*
I think the blue and yellow color theme works best of all in this kitchen.
*
Yellow floating shelves instead of kitchen cabinets. Looks fancy, but what about the dust job??
*
Cool triple lamps. And, check out that creative frying pan-storage!
*
Nice railing on that staircase. Very artistic.
*
This minimalistic bedroom has a great view. A mini fireplace and a mega plant!
*
Yellow and blue bathroom. Shiny tiles..
