A Classic Beauty

This East Hampton home is designed by Larry Laslo and is a real classic beauty:

*

white and orange living room with high ceiling and mantel, classic style

The focal point of this room is definitely the fireplace. It looks really tall. The wall above the mantel is decorated with a huge frame-less mirror with a round mirror framed in branches, layered above. I’ve seen a lot of mirror-on-mirror action lately. Do you like it?

*

classic living room white and orange with tall window

See how the window is framed in a semi-circular arch from the inside, but is actually square.

*

taupe beige greige classic dining room with mantel

The dining room is just the right balance between formal and casual. I like to call it “liveable”.

*

classic dining room detail tablescape and live candle chandelier

Is that a porcelain cabbage?

*

classic pink lilac white bathroom

The sconces flanking the mirror picks up the deep color of the hardware. But I wonder if they were hung unevenly like that on purpose? What do you think?

*

foryer with stairway and huge wall clock

The foyer is light and welcoming with its white walls and dark floors. I like how it is kept really clean and simple. On another note, you won’t be late for anything with a clock that size..

*

classic house exterior

For good measure, here is what the house looks like from the outside. I guess it’s a mansion rather than a house? Either way, it is simply beautiful.

Swedish Antique Home

Posted under Bedroom, Classic, Dining room, Exterior, Kitchen, Living room, Soft/ Light, Vintage, White by theLennoxx on Thursday 18 March 2010 at 7:06 pm

Just came accross this beautiful house featured in The Washington Post in June 09. This charming house with the green glazed tile roof and wondow shutters is owned by  Loi Thai and partner  Thomas Troeschel. The two are also the owners of  Tone on Tone, a shop specializing in 18th and 19th century painted Swedish antiques.

*

charming white house with green roof

Let’s start with the exterior. Simple and pretty. The front door was actually moved from the centre to the side of the house.

*

charming romantic white cream beige and gray living room

The whole of the inside is painted the same pale gray color with crisp white trim and pale floors of white bleached wide-plank oak. Loi is quoted in The Washington Post saying “as you can see, I’m my best customer.” True dat. See how they use contrast to define the space (black glasstop coffee table). They have also used the magic of texture and patterns to keep the room from looking bland and boring.

*

beautiful light dining room gray white

The kitchen is equally neutral and elegant, with the counters almost blending into the walls. The green pandant lamps ads a  kick and brings the kitchen island into focus.

*

beautiful light bedroom

The chair at the desk is actually a slipcovered Parsons chair from Ikea. Talk about having an eye for mixing. I would never have guessed..

*

beautiful white and gray lving room

The classic dining table (on wheels might I add) and the lantern are definitely the focal points of this dining room. Wonder what the dining  chair cushions are covered with?

*

Loi has a unique approach to his precious antique furniture, saying  “… this type of furniture only gets better when it gets beat-up.” From looking at his home, I was very surprised about his down to earth approach to decorating when reading his interview. Read the whole article here, it is definitely interesting!

Jeneration Interiors

Today I want to share some beautiful interiors designed by Jennifer of Jeneration Interiors. The color palette of this home is subtle with exciting pops of color and the accents are really dramatic. Just how we like it, right?

*

beautiful dining room

I love it when the two end chairs are taller than the rest like Jennifer did here. The walls are sage green and the dark stained floor is just beautiful. The pointed ceiling sets a perfect frame to this dining room.

*

dining room detail

This is the view from the opposite end of the dining table. That coral red chair looks pretty snug. I remember seeing Kelly Wearstler sitting in a chair like that, did she design it? The golden Gothic mirror is pretty cool too.

*

modern eccelctic dining room

French doors open up into a lush green garden. I want to pick the urnes on the table out of this picture and place them on my own table, ha ha!

*

beautiful garden with fountain

This is the garden outside of the dining room. It’s so cozy, reminds me of The Shire (home of the hobbits in LOTR).

*

modern hollywood glam bedroom

The bedroom is ultra glam with a pearl colored padded bed and one wall completely mirrored. The golden tassel lamp in the corner is so fun and unexpected.

*

color palette for glam bedroom taube greige green and coral red

Color Palette for this bedroom: The walls looks something like Pantone 408 C. Area rug, curtains and bed are all a softer creamier shade of beige, with contrasting dark stained furniture. Emerald green and red are used as accent colors to really spice it up.

French doors open up from the bedroom onto a veranda. A perfect place to drink your morning coffee. Fantastic view!

Round Mirrors

Posted under Brown, Dining room, Dramatic, Hottest Designers, Living room, Mirror / Wall Acessory, Modern, Stairways by theLennoxx on Monday 15 March 2010 at 11:44 pm

I once read “a mirror is like a window you can hang on any wall”.  This has really stuck with me, and I love seeing how designers use mirrors on to lead natural light into the darker spaces of a room. Here are a couple of examples, all with round mirrors:

*

Behind this cozy beige living area is a dining area, with a deep brown accent wall. See the four round mirrors?

Here they are in all their glory. I love the heavy frames on the dark wall, it looks very dramatic.

This stairway is decorated with multiple round mirrors. The reflective mirrors on the rich wall are like reverse wormholes (whatever that would be?). I adore this!

Glamorous Fairytale Bedroom

Posted under Bedroom, Beige, Classic, Color Palette, Glamorous, Hottest Designers, Purple, Soft/ Light, Wallpaper / Tiles / Murals by theLennoxx on Saturday 13 March 2010 at 12:07 pm

This dreamy bedroom is designed by Kate McIntyre and was featured in Traditional Home:

*

glamorous beige and purple bedroom with fairytale wallpaper wallcovering

The walls are covered with reindeer and trees, with the ceiling picking up the lilac tones from the wall. The four poster bed is placed on a custom hand sown cowhide rug in various shades of cream.

*

Color palette for this look!

*

glam fairytale bedroom

The fairytale wall covering is actually a mural. The Four poster bed is custom made in polished cattle bone (which is kinda grotesque..?). Take a look at the beautiful clove leaf details on the headboard.

*

Just beautiful!

This cabinet is also custom made with metallic doors and branch pulls.

Bathroom Romance

Posted under Bathroom, Blue, Clever Storage, Color Palette, Green, Grey, Romantic/Country by theLennoxx on Thursday 11 March 2010 at 11:26 pm

This bathroom was love at first sight, even though it is not my style at all. That’s how cute it is ! Must be all the unexpected elements like the freestanding copper tub on the terracotta floors tiles and the creative storage solutions.

*

romantic bathroom with gray walls and terracotta tile floor with brass freestanding tub

Towels are layered on a ladder leaned against the wall for easy access when climbing out of the tub. Soaps and shampoo is placed on an old garden chair, completely styled with scented candles and potted roses. You can get the tub from here (at a nice price!).

*

color palette - romantic bathroom sage seagrass green teal and muted pinks

Sage green walls with seagrass green furniture and terracotta floor tiles. Various shades of  muted pinks serve as accent color.

*

romantic bathroom with seating area

A gray wicker chair with soft linen cushion and a matching ottoman provides a place to relax and maybe do a home manicure. The tall floor candle holder and the fresh potted roses adds to the romantic atmosphere.

*

romantic bathroom with brass bucket sink

The sink looks like a tiny version of the tub. It is mounted on what looks like a tiny modified desk. Instead of shelves for (additional) towel storage, an old wicker basket is placed underneath the sink console. Definitely cute and creative, but I would want a larger mirror though.

*

romantic bathroom

Bathroom accessories are stored in a copper  sauce pan inside this cabinet. Talk about matching!

*

romantic bathroom starge details jars with bath salt

The romantic style is all in the details. Take a look at these beautiful jars for storage of bath salt. Decorated with flowers and pink ribbon. So easy, so cute.

Natural Touch

Posted under Bedroom, Dining room, Hottest Designers, Living room, Modern, Natural, White by theLennoxx on Wednesday 10 March 2010 at 11:50 pm

Interior Designer Madeline Stuart is based in Los Angeles and in addition to designing beautiful interiors, she has designed a collection of  custom furniture. Madeline’s design style is something I can definitely relate to; Timeless!

*

modern bedroom with white shag carpet

In this white bedroom Madeline used a black four poster bed and covered the back with a dark material for a snug headboard look. The simple lines is softened with a fluffy white area rug. Love the crude wood side table.

*

modern sunroom blue and white

Who wouldn’t want a view like that from their living room?

*

modern rustic living room with raw stone brick fireplace wall

This home is pretty modern with clean lines and bare surfaces. The raw stone brick wall is a sure way to add some cabin flavor, warm and perfect for a cozy seating area.  That tiny orange stool totally looks like a crab!

*

modern black and white kitchen

The kitchen is very modern with clean lines and brushed steel. I’m usually not a fan of steel overload, but I think it is really well balanced out here with the dark stained wood cabinets and floors. What do You think?

*

dark wood and white dining room with sliding barn door, nailhead trimmed chairs and chandelier

The dining room is separated from the kitchen with a sliding barn door. Love that table, what are those called? Looks fantastic combined with the glam nail head trimmed chairs and chandelier.

*

modern entryway with natural elements

The flower cowhide rug is from the Rug Company. At first I was wondering what was the thought behind the branch in the ceiling, till I saw the tiny lamps on it. It must be a (very creative) lamp!

Beautiful Contrasts

San Francisco based design firm Charles De Lisle Workshop specializes in artisan designed furnishings, lighting and art. Who’s up for some artistic eye candy?

*

beige and dark royal blue modern classic living room with plexi glass coffe table with rope knot

Have you ever seen a coffee table like that? A pile of rope in a glass box. It looks so much better that it sounds.

*

classic living room

The ocean art on the right is really big. If you go back to the first picture, see how it is the perfect size behind the sofa, as if it was hanging right above it?  Impressing design!

*

modern classic living room with modern coffee table and blue sofa

Absolutely love the heavy raw wood console with the beautiful vignette contrasting both the classic architecture and the very sleek modern furniture. I want this!

*

gray beige greige living room classic and modern mix

The golden side tables probably specially designed by Charles De Lisle Workshop. If you can’t afford custom, both Neiman Marcus and Z Gallerie have alternatives.

*

color palette warm gry with purples and blues

The Color Palette: Wall color could be Pantone Warm Gray 3C, or the slightly less red analog BM Rollex Siding Cobblestone.

*

modern gray beige greige bedroom with dark floors

A calm and beautiful bedroom of beige and crisp white on dark hardwood floor. I don’t understand how one can make an orange Arne Jacobsen egg chair (1958) look so elegant!

*

The contrast between simple modern furniture, raw materials and classic beauty is readily visible in this dining room too. Take a look at that light fixture!

Interior Photo(shop)

Posted under Coastal, Color Palette, Grey, Hottest Designers, Living room, Modern by theLennoxx on Wednesday 3 March 2010 at 8:05 pm

I recently came across these beautiful photos I hadn’t seen before. They are from Elle Decor’s May 2009 issue, so chances are you may have already seen them.  These breathtaking interiors belong to  actress Alexandra Wentworth and her husband, news-anchor  George Stephanopoulos, situated in Georgetown.

*

modern coastal living room warm gray bluegreen and purples

The room has a neutral backdrop with splashes of different shades of purple. Love the quirky area rug with purple squids. Alexandra has been collecting seashells since childhood, and they are displayed throughout the room. I especially love the giant clam shell in the fireplace.

*

warm gray modern living room with pops of purple color

See how much the wall color changes in this photo from the former. It looks a lot warmer here. The ceiling is also painted light blue.

*

warm gray modern living room with pops of purple color and seafan and shell display

One wall is dedicated to Alexandra’s collection of sea shells and sea fans.

*

color palette warm gray muted purple and blue green

The wall color could be something like BM Opal.

*

elizabeth martin design living room

Their home was designed by Elisabeth Martin, and after a look into her fantastic portfolio, I came across a few more photos from Alexandra and George’s home.  I didn’t realize how much color adjustment they use in the magazine pictures (which probably explains the changing wall color). The colors are entirely different, but beautiful nonetheless.

*

grey beige greige living room with deep purple eggplant

I notice there are no squids on this carpet, I wonder if they changed the carpet to or from this? The room also has a different layout, and the sofa is actually not indigo but aubergine. Also, the back of the built-in shelves are not actually blue-green but dark gray!

*

So what have we learned today? Well, we shouldn’t be too sad when our living room does not look as good as the ones in the magazine photos. Good lighting and color adjustments makes a whole lotta difference (+ a professional photographer).

At the end of the day, I love the glossy magazine pictures, retouched or not. To me it is not about recreating reality, rather showing possibility (is it even possible?). What are your thoughts? Are you Pro or Against interior photoshopping?

Blue and Yellow

John Willey is behind today’s interior designs, which are all about the color combination Yellow and Blue!

*

beautiful coastal style house with turquoise blue exterior decor

This is so pretty and styled, it almost looks like a dollhouse.

*

outdoor decor large round blue garden stones

A few large but visually very interesting decor items really makes all the difference on this patio. The high gloss paint on the “ceiling” (under the veranda) gives of some “clean” vibes.

*

yellow and blue living room coastal style with blue and brown zebra ottoman coffee table

This yellow living room is accented with sky blue and brown. Take a look at the pretty pattern on the sofa to the left. It is repeated in the accent pillow on the blue sofa, tieing the room togheter even more. I love the blue and brown ottoman- a refreshing take on the very popular zebra stripe.

*

Side view. The blue sofa looks so wide from this angle.

*

blue and yellow interior design decor coastal style

A coastal vignette and a beautiful kitchen decorated with blue and yellow. Very unusual ceiling lamp.

*

Yellow and blue coastal style bedroom. I love the big X in the ceiling, it would only work for a square room like this one.
